OK, here come the Turkey Day thoughts, sorry about the tardy nature …
The coach, probably smart on this one, chose to take the diplomatic route.
I harken back to this summer, and the fall when the crabgrass grew rampant on the dirt sections and the weeds overran the grass and holes were created with every rain storm ... and nobody chose to listen.
Surprise, surprise in the lawrence tradition, they built a nice field and ignored it, instead of nurturing it.
I told former AD Mike Rivet to his face back years ago that it was penny-wise pound-foolish when he chose only to make the football field artificial turf that every inch of field space should have been covered by the fake stuff.
I point to Pine Banks Park in Malden for the turf baseball diamond that they practiced on when the spring season began.
You knew when the city cheaped out early and didn't go all FieldTurf that we'd have issues.
Surprise. Funny thing was, that when I was over watching the scrimmage at the SLE, I noticed softball was practicing there, too, not using their new field either.
Brendan assured me that he was assured that the field will be ready for use on opening day.
We shall see.
Seems few MVC underclassmen are slated to make an impact on the bump. A player comes to mind pitching for Tewksbury...big strong sophomore bringing it in the mid 80's. Methuen, Havehill perhaps. Andover and Central with seniors, tough to break through. What about Lawrence. How about Lowell? CCHS with a couple of young arms at JV tossing in the 80's. One I hear is throwing mid 80's...I guess not ready yet. How many MVC teams have Frosh/Soph pitchers tossing in the 80's and not Varsity candidates? Andover probably...didn't Farrell have to play JV as a sophomore. I've heard of grade inflation, but do we have "velocity" inflation in the MVC. Boy, HS baseball has come a long way. IT's all about pitching, isn't it!
Hector, help us out here, you have the coaches ears.
Dont I have have 20 points? 2 final four teams and nova in the final. No love for TD91!!
You do have 20, with nova in the finals.
My bad.
