I must say, I'm quite disappointed that you failed to spend any significant time in this space this year discussing the Haverhill Hillies baseball season. Entering the season, the expectations were not very high - having lost a great deal of talent to graduation and missing their two top pitchers for the majority of the year.

This is a team that far exceeded expectations and, I'm sure - knowing these kids, worked hard to achieve their goals. I've been following the team, via the tribune.com, from Germany after coaching the JV for 7 years... and am never surprised by the lack of credit given to Haverhill while massive praise is consistently showered upon the likes of Central (who did have an excellent season) and Andover (who clearly did not meet expectations).

I am disappointed in your coverage. The Hillies deserve more recognition for their accomplishments than what they've been given.

    Sincerely,

    Russell Marino

    Russ,

As a guy who coached with you on the Haverhill Legion, covered you at HHS and understand your passion, I can see why you'd be proud.
Again in the newspaper, I absolutely chronicled the efforts by the Hillies, who as you said tremendously overachieved.
Looking back, I covered this team as much or more than anyone. An 11-8 team, I covered 7 of their games personally.
That's more than the bulk of the area teams.
I guess for you, being in Germany, that's not enough. I apologize, but the effort and the respect for what they did has been displayed here and in print.
By the way, I know their season's over, but this week's around the horn in the Sunday Eagle-Tribune is on Taylor Robinson. Be sure to check that our too.

Thanks Hector... Seems as though I've missed some of the articles in the paper. You've always been around our guys, as the past few years we've been successful. Though Germany has proven to be a wonderful experience, I really do miss being around the team, players, chip, etc....

Hope you enjoy the summer... maybe we'll catch up at a legion game in July.
