ETBlogs MVSports: The MVC coaches stumble again.

I would never take anything away from any of the other players as they all have great seasons, but regardless of weather it is POY or MVP it has to be Ryan Kemp in the MVC large. If the award is for MVP, strong cases can also be made for Hennessey and Guyer who were both very instrumental in their teams being on top of the MVC. Roy, despite his best efforts saw his team finish way out of the running in the MVC. (This is an age old argument, Kobe doesn't get the MVP until he leads his team to the best record in the Western Conference.) If the award is for POY then the inference is that the award is based on individual accomplishments regardless of where the team finishes. Kemp not only leads (and has lead for most of the year) the MVC in batting average, but, and I think this is/should be considered extremely significant, he leads ALL of EASTERN Massachusetts high school baseball players in batting average (see Boston Globe). What is that over 230 high schools? And no one has a better average...All that while seeing very few good pitches to hit the entire season. All he saw all year long was off speed stuff. More ammo? How about consistency..He hit safely in all but 1 league game (drawing 3 walks and scoring 2 runs against Metheun) and in all but 2 games the entire year. Kemp has scored 24 runs, certainly in the top 2 or 3 in the MVC....He also has 25 RBI, probably 2nd or 3rd in the MVC...and, the Andover game aside (2 errors), is arguably the best defensive 3rd baseman in the league as well, making only 2 other errors the entire season while turning in some spectacular plays. Unless I am mistaken, this is one of the great statistical years in terms of hitting in the MVC. Apparently, unless you pitch and play, you don't have a shot at winning the award. How many non pitchers have won the award in recent years?

Well...I am more than shocked to say the least about the POY choice made this year! PLAYER OF THE YEAR... Roy, he wasn't even in the top all season. Are politics involved in this decision like all others. How about making the choices based upon sheer TALENT???
Its enough about he is a "nice player" All of these kids are "nice players" !!!
The choice should be made strictly based upon talent and stats. What do you need to do to get recognized for pure talent???? Obviously the true meaning of this POY recognition has been lost to the coaches backing their buddies and making "political" choices. Oh, and for the size of the team...maybe the coaches should be told "everyone cannot be included!!!" This isn't Little league guys where everyone should get a chance. This is the cream of the crop. Lets the numbers speak .

As a footnote: Of these players...who and how many are going on to play college ball next year? Hmmm... How about D1 ball next year. Two we know for sure...
Scottie OBerg and Ryan Kemp....need more be said!

Hector- I heard the DCL-MVC All Star game is today at La Lacheur. Do you have a list of the players who made it for the MVC? Also, just an observance why play it today? None of the top pitchers most likely will throw. Why not wait till a few days after the finals on the 14th?
