All right, let’s talk some hoops …
( Pinkerton, CC of N.H. ) from N.H. for the season and there your # 1. Well I guess if Pinkerton was in the MVC they wouldn't win the MVC like you said. I wish Methuen was in the N.H. league. Only playing 1 maybe 2 teams that would give them a game. Methuen will win this game tonight and it won't be by 1 pt. and they don't need home field to win agains Lowell. I talk to some of the players and this is a big game for them. There are up for this game. Methuen has tough games week in and week out. It like this for all MVC teams.
A. It's the Fantastic Four, not the Fab 4.
2. Pinkerton is no longer in the rankings, which are now 1. Salem, 2. Methuen, 3. CC, the real CC not the CC of NH, 4. Andover
My cred is doing just fine, thank you.
We can only shoot two games per Friday night, it's basically a manpower thing. The Pinkerton and Andover games got photos this week in the Eagle-Tribune, simly because each game feature a pair of teams in our readership ... Andover and Haverhill and Pinkerton-Londonderry.
The Lawrence win was enormous, one of the biggest upsets in our region over the last 25 years, so it went on the front.
We do try our best to shoot as many of the area teams as possible, for instance, I'm only guessing here, but I'll bet we shoot Andover-Lawrence and Salem-Timberlane. That seems logical to me.
There are no perceived agendas, and there is no science to it ... we can't surmise that Lawrence is going to upset Chelmsford for the first time since 1985 ... we just try to cover as many teams as we can and the biggest games possible.
Great job as always. Obviously, from the above you can't please everyone, but you're giving it a shot and providing a lot more coverage than anyplace else I see. Wanted to comment quick on a very improved Brooks team being 2-0. I'm totally biased, having a son who's a reserve on the team, but they have to be one of the most improved team in the region, right? Coach K has done a great job here in a little over a year. You were right about Frongillo from Haverhill being a nice quarterback for Groton- He throws a great ball and is really smart. It's not fair to him to be compared to Jordan Johnson as an athlete, though. Jordan's not a local kid, but I've followed area football for a couple decades, and this is one the most explosive athletes we've ever seen in these parts. If people around here haven't seen him, they should try- especially if they can see him on turf. While this Brooks team on the lines is too small to compete with Salem, Central etc., Jordan Johnson would be the best skill player on any team in the area. His speed and even more importantly ability to change directions is scary. Plus he likes to hit. His best play yesterday wasn't either touchdown run or throw or even on D, but a block he threw on a kickoff. Groton was smart enough to kick away from him all day, so he blew somebody up on the first return of the day. Brooks got some great contributions from local guys like Jason Buco, Tucker White, and Andrew Coke, too. It's a talented group of skill guys.
I'm curious- I know the area has produced some big time football players on the lines on both sides of the ball over the years, and even some linebackers, tight ends, and fullbacks. But how many "speed" position guys (RB, WR, DB, or kick returners) have earned full scholarships to top 20 schools like Jordan has done at BYU, where he'll be a D back and return man? The recruiting sites all have BYU's recruiting class as a top 10 in the country for next year. I can't think of too many off the top of my head, but figured you'd know better than me, Hector.
Coach D: You need to update your data. Central beat Dracut the week after Dracut rolled over Everett. Central also beat SJP by a point, while Brockton beat SJP on a late field goal. Could be time to give the Raiders their due. Hector, I'm not sure how anyone who has seen all the teams in question can logically disagree with your top 4.
What is "wrong"? The only point i was making is over the past ten years (not including this year) Pinkerton would have easily beaten Methuen or Lawrence because both programs have been down. Hence the Trib has covered the arguably the best team in the area more than the down programs. Again I repeat this year could be different but not the past ten years...
Also, name two players on Pinkerton that pay to go from towns other than derry, chester or hamstead? You probably don t know but those three towns Pinkerton is the public high school.
And, Yes, Pinkerton can take tuitioned kids from anywhere, just as Central. However, unlike Central, parents are simply unwilling to pay tuition to Pinkerton from outside the sending towns. Yes, it's a private school with a private board of directors, but it's not an attractive alternative to the local public high school. So technically, you are correct. But functionally, you're wrong. And having seen all the teams in question, I think Salem would be a favorite against every MVC team right now. Pinkerton would be a favorite against all but two or three. And Guertin would be a three touchdown favorite against all MVC teams. And right now, the mid-level teams in NH D1 are better than mid-level MVC teams.
Also, you responded "what?????" above, the point I was making is you said all MVC teams are public high schools. Last time I checked CCHS was around $10,000.
If English is your second language I apologize about the spelling and grammar comments. I give you a lot of credit that you can communicate in two languages. If it is your first please study harder in school.
Salem has earned it because they have, by far, the best ground game in the area and play solid D, and NOT because they beat Pink. Actually, they pummelled Pink, who might not be a Top 4 team in NH D1 this year. And please, enlighten all of us: Which MVC team would be a favorite against Bishop Guertin right now? For that matter, which Mass. team would be a favorite vs. BG? Congrats on Methuen's impressive turn around, but you really need to develop a broader, better informed perspective.
Wrong. I said they would beat Lawrence and Methuen but not the top MVC teams. That is what I said. Also who the hell is Hence the Trib. Are you telling me that if I lived in Salem and I wanted my son to go to Pinkerton High School he couldn't. If you could afford it, you can pay to your kid to go to Pinkerton High School. That is a fact. This has already been proven by another blogger. Pinkerton is not a area team. All of MVC teams are.
I stated central catholic is not. How am I wrong? Did you really not write this above?
Also, who from NH have you seen play?
Why is Billerica 3 TD s better? Bigger, faster, just curious? Let s talk football. Just back up what you say. Billerica definitely is great program.
On that Div 2 schedule that you talk about, last year, Dover, NH (non-playoff D2 NH team) beat Andover 4 wins for the year ( "non-playoff D-1 ma team"). And then Andover beat the CC 5 wins for the year of Mass. on Thanksgiving. Andover and the CC of Mass. are the top ( no at the bottom ) of the MVC right? I know that was last year and they were not very good, doesn't that go against your theory that NH teams are always weak. If your theory was correct then there is no way a lowly non-playoff D2 team from NH can even compete with the "Mighty MVC". Not week in and week out. They wouldn't make it. Sorry that is the way it is.
Chelmsford beats Methuen, Lawrence over Chelmsford (last week), Lowell over Lawrence(week before), Nashua South ( 1 and 2 in D1 NH) over Lowell 23 - 6 (week before that) Puts your MVC teams losing to a middle of the road D1 team in NH.
Hopefully your Methuen team takes care of business or your MVC domination looks to be ending quickly. Good luck, Name, just for any once of credibility you might have.
