OK, here come the Turkey Day thoughts, sorry about the tardy nature …
As always, great job, though your Self-Esteem Top 10 reinforces the head-scratching with Pelham and G-town ahead of PA, Londonderry, Methuen, and Central. Does anyone really question whether there would be at least a three touchdown difference between the first two and any of the other four? re: MVC: Could you clarify what, exactly, is meant by "Large" and "Small"? Seems to me that some of the 'largest' schools in the MVC hide in the "Small" division in multiple sports, much like Lowell (one of the largest schools in New England) plays in the D3 hockey tourney. I have to think it's another example of affirmative action colliding with competitive athletics. Again, great job!
Pelham over Pinkerton? I wonder what DV would look like with any of the DI top four in that division. Note the success Trinity is having in DV this year and compare their record in the last few years in DI. Certainly, with no respect to Pelham which appears to be a first rate program, they would not be undefeated. BTW, the first Pinkerton- Londonderry game was more about line play than Guinto. Guinto is certainly the guy you watch and the one who causes opposing coaches to worry but the game came down to 9 third and longs for Pinkerton of which 6 ended up in first downs. Chris George was huge in that game picking up most of those first downs for the Astros behind a line that absolutely cleared the way. Also, turnovers made the difference, 2 of which were fumbles by the Lancers on Astro kick offs and led to 2 short field TD's. A tipped ball interception in the endzone on Londonderry's first possession set the tone for the Lancers all game. Take those short field TD's away and you are looking at a one possession game. The Lancers have a much better chance playing a Guinto-less Astro team but need to (and will) play harder and more efficient this time.
